Looks like they aren't sending them all at once so keep watching this week. So far have heard from 3 people. 2 got "re-evaluated", 1 turned down. So keep watching your e-mail.

Some news to pass along
Have some info to pass along from a GGD applicant.
They are starting to release the decisions for people that applied in January. But some things are very different from when I applied.
For 2009-10, they want around 25 people in the programme.
15 applicants have already been given offers. But 30 have been put for 'revaluation', with the applications to be decided along with the March band people, with the goal of having final notifications out 15 May. The current guess is that they would give offers to 40 people total in the end.
What is this revaluation? Kinda like a waitlist, but not one. Basically they have people they really want, and people they kinda want. They want to see the March band applications before making a final decision. They may also want to see who doesn't want to come, so they can offer that slot to someone.
This is so not cool to drop on someone, but this is what you guys are facing now.
If you have been given an offer, and don't want to come, really let them know as soon as possible so your slot can be offered to someone else.
Hope to have more info this weekend. Hang in there.

Why are GGD taking so long with the admissions info?
I honestly don't know. My year I found out the last week of February.
So what could be happening? A couple theories:
1) My year GGD might have told people as they were admitted or rejected, instead of having a universal release time for the decision. This year they are definitely releasing all of the Jan application decisions at the same time.
2) Oxford just started to allow online applications. Maybe the university has standardised what date an application band decision will be released for all grad programmes?
3) Possible shake up in who runs GGD? New person coming in could delay things.
4) The selective release of information. My year GGD wasn't exactly forthcoming with a lot of information, you just got bits and pieces. Maybe they just want to hold on to some information for a bit longer because they can?
So basically I don't know anything for sure. Just some quick theories.
But it is curious that they have had to turn in their application decisions to the university this week but won't tell you guys for another week.

If you get in, don't end up like these people...
Neither of these people were in GGD, but it does apply.
In 2007, two Rhodes Scholars from Harvard caused a stir by publishing an article in the Harvard Crimson student newspaper very critical of Oxford the city, Oxford the university, and the Rhodes programme. Oxford, in their view, was simply no match for Harvard and its unlimited resources. Their attack on Oxford even ended up in the (UK) Sunday Times. It also caused a lot of debate within the Oxford Rhodes Scholar community, of which I knew several people.
Look, I did have many problems with Oxford too, which have been detailed in this blog. But Oxford the city and Oxford the university are great places full of friendly, helpful people. Please don't be the loud foreigner (especially if you're American) who thinks they can tell the British people how to run their city or university. It just doesn't go over well. And if you are from Harvard, don't be a Harvard know-it-all who thinks no where can compare with it. Remember, Harvard (and Yale) gave us George W Bush! They aren't perfect places either! If nothing can top your current elite university, maybe stay there for more school...
